Alfred P. Sloan Foundation

For more than two decades, NACME has been proud to partner with the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation in its efforts to create diverse, equitable, and inclusive pathways to and through STEM graduate education for Black, Indigenous, and Latina/o/x students. NACME serves as the primary administrator for two of the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation’s signature initiatives.

University Centers for Exemplary Mentoring (UCEMs)

The Sloan Foundation’s UCEM initiative is driven by the conviction that through financial support, strong mentoring, inclusive community and institutional transformation, doctoral students in STEM can thrive and institutions can change the way they attract, receive, and educate Black, Indigenous, and Latina/o/x students. In addition to supporting UCEM institutions’ pursuit of systemic change in graduate education, the Foundation provides direct support to Sloan Scholars through scholarships and a strong alumni community. Opportunities provided by each UCEM can be found at the links below.

Sloan Indigenous Graduate Partnership (SIGP)

The Sloan Foundation’s SIGP initiative aims to strengthen and expand university efforts to attract, receive, and educate Indigenous students in STEM graduate programs through the creation and operation of regional centers that foster supportive environments and meet the unique needs of Indigenous students. The SIGP currently supports recruitment, retention, and educational efforts at nine campuses across the U.S. Opportunities provided by each SIGP campus can be found at the links below.
