Planned Giving
Making a planned gift is a wonderful way to show your support and appreciation for NACME and its mission while accommodating your own personal, financial, estate-planning, and philanthropic goals. With smart planning, you may even increase the size of your estate and/or reduce the tax burden on your heirs. Just as important, you will know that you have made a meaningful contribution to under-represented students in STEM education and careers.
Overview
Donor Advised Funds
Do you participate in the Fidelity Charitable Gift Fund or one of the many others (Vanguard, Schwab, etc.)? You can recommend a grant to NACME directly from your Fund. You can even have it generated automatically on an annual basis.
Gift of Securities
Consider making a gift of highly appreciated publicly traded securities. You get full credit for the fair market value of the shares, while avoiding any capital gains tax on the appreciation, were you to sell.
Bequest
A bequest provision in your will can provide a meaningful legacy. You may designate a specific dollar amount or percentage and designate how you wish the bequest to be used – for Endowment in your name or a loved one, for Scholarship, for program support or for greatest need. If you are unsure about the designation and want to provide for the greatest flexibility, you can designate the bequest “at the discretion of the NACME Board of Directors”.
Charitable Trusts
Charitable Trusts can be a useful estate planning tool. They allow for income payments for a term or lifetime while enabling assets to be transferred for charitable purposes. There are many varieties of charitable trusts – which is the best for you depends on specific planning factors which can be explored with your attorney. We can provide you with some basic information to help in your planning.
Individual Retirement Accounts
Consider naming NACME as a beneficiary of your IRA. Because these assets are heavily taxed when left to individuals, they make less attractive assets to leave to family members. Consider fulfilling your charitable gifts through beneficiary designations of your IRA. Congress has continued to extend the opportunity to make direct gifts from your IRA account to qualified charitable organizations – you can satisfy you required minimum distribution in all or in part while simultaneously making a generous gift to NACME.
